As we don face masks to stop the spread of the coronavirus, most of us probably aren’t thinking about words such as “elegant” or “fanciful.” But fashion designer Ben Van Beusekom doesn’t think like most of us. The couturier has been turning protective face coverings — both the COVID-19 variety and the gas masks so prominent a hundred years ago — into art.
