The art of picking books, and picking up lovers

In one of our most revered epics, the divine Hanuman is tasked with procuring the life-restoring Sanjeevani for his fallen comrade. Unable to identify the right shrub, he carries the entire hill back.

Asked to write a list of book recommendations this week, I was tempted to follow suit by simply unloading all the books that have graced my e-shopping cart. Fortunately, better sense prevailed and I started narrowing down likely candidates using a big chart and making columns based on narrative style, timelessness, relevance and purpose.
