Throwback Tulsa: Waite Fillips donates Philbrook as art center on this day in 1938

Philbrook, the palatial Waite Phillips estate at 2727 S. Rockford Road, was donated to Tulsa by Phillips and his wife, Genevieve, for use as an art center for the city on this day in 1938.

The 72-room mansion and its surrounding 23 acres of grounds is now one of America’s finest art museums.

The integrity of the original residence remains intact while later additions to the facility and gardens complete this classic Tulsa attraction.
